Refered to as either a Watch lead or Grip lead or even a combination of the two. The bumps on each side dig into a sandy seabed stopping the lead from just gliding across the surface which would obviously result in a complete loss of control. The bumps provide just enough resistance to guide your rig on the bottom but also to stir up the sandy seabed attracting curious fish
